According to the investigation, the incident began after the victim came into contact with a woman through an online platform. Their interaction reportedly started around the purchase of household items. After communication between them, the woman allegedly arranged a meeting and brought the man to a flat in the Neb Sarai area.
Police allege that the woman’s husband and several associates were present at the location. The victim was allegedly assaulted and confined inside the flat. He was later taken away in his own SUV and moved through different locations, according to the police investigation.

Alleged ₹70 Lakh Extortion Demand
A significant part of the Delhi Online App Honey Trap Case involves an alleged demand for ₹70 lakh from the victim’s family.
Police said the accused allegedly attempted to use the victim’s banking facilities, UPI access and cards while he was being held. Investigators are also examining allegations that the victim’s personal information was used or was intended to be used for financial purposes, including possible loan-related activity.
Some items allegedly purchased using the victim’s credit card were also recovered during the investigation.
Six People Arrested

Online Platforms and Identity Risks
The case highlights concerns surrounding interactions with people whose identities and intentions have not been independently verified. Online marketplaces, social platforms and relationship-oriented applications can allow strangers to establish contact quickly, sometimes before either person has enough information about the other.
People using matrimonial and matchmaking platforms should also remain alert to fabricated identities and misleading profiles. Awareness about a fake profile on a matrimonial website can help users understand why basic identity verification and caution are important before developing trust with someone online.
Investigation Continues
Police are continuing to investigate the alleged honey trap, kidnapping and extortion aspects of the case. Further details may emerge as investigators examine digital records, financial transactions, recovered items and the alleged roles of the arrested individuals.
The Delhi Online App Honey Trap Case also serves as a reminder that online interactions can sometimes develop into serious criminal matters. Users should avoid sharing banking credentials, card details, passwords, identity documents or other sensitive information with unknown individuals.
Any person who believes they have been targeted through an online platform should preserve relevant messages, transaction records and other evidence and contact the appropriate law-enforcement authorities.
