The death of celebrity manager Disha Salian in June 2020 has once again come under investigation after the Central Bureau of Investigation registered an FIR and began examining the circumstances surrounding her death.
The fresh probe follows directions from the Bombay High Court and has brought several names from the film industry, political circles and police administration into the scope of investigation.
Among the names mentioned in the FIR are actors Sooraj Pancholi and Dino Morea, actress Rhea Chakraborty, and several other individuals. Their roles have been listed for examination in connection with allegations mentioned in the FIR.
However, one point is particularly important when reporting the development: the individuals named in the FIR have not been declared accused at this stage. A CBI official quoted in current reporting said that names could be included as accused if their involvement is established during the investigation.
Disha Salian was a celebrity manager who had worked with people from the entertainment industry. She died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a building in Mumbai.
Her death received considerable public attention because it happened only a few days before the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, with whom she had previously been professionally associated.
At the time, Mumbai Police recorded the matter as an Accidental Death Report. The circumstances surrounding Salian’s death subsequently became the subject of continuing public debate, with her family raising questions about the original investigation.
The fresh CBI investigation is now expected to revisit material from the earlier inquiry and examine whether all relevant aspects of the case were properly investigated.
A major development came when the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to investigate the circumstances surrounding Disha Salian’s death.
The court proceedings involved concerns raised by Salian’s family about the earlier handling of the case. The court also examined why the matter had remained recorded as an accidental death case despite allegations raised by the family.
Following the court’s direction, the CBI registered a fresh FIR in September 2026.
The new investigation is intended to examine the circumstances of Salian’s death and allegations connected with the handling of evidence and the earlier investigation.
The names of Sooraj Pancholi, Rhea Chakraborty and Dino Morea appear in the FIR among people whose roles require investigation.
According to current reporting on the FIR, investigators are examining allegations concerning the principal offences mentioned in the complaint, alleged criminal conspiracy, the alleged creation and circulation of a false suicide narrative, and allegations involving the suppression, destruction or fabrication of evidence.
The FIR also contains references to various public servants, police personnel and other individuals whose roles may need to be examined.
This does not establish that the three actors or any other named person committed a crime.
The investigation is at an early stage, and the CBI will have to examine available evidence before reaching conclusions about the involvement of any individual.
Following the emergence of his name in reports about the FIR, Sooraj Pancholi publicly addressed the matter.
Pancholi has said that he never met Disha Salian and has denied having a connection with the allegations surrounding her death. He has also indicated that he is prepared to cooperate with investigators if required.
His response is significant in the context of the ongoing investigation because the appearance of a person’s name in an FIR does not itself establish their involvement in an offence.
The CBI will be responsible for examining such claims and determining what is supported by evidence.
Rhea Chakraborty and Dino Morea are also mentioned in the FIR as individuals whose roles require examination.
The investigation will determine whether there is evidence connecting any of the people named in the FIR to the allegations being examined.
At this stage, there has been no finding of guilt against them in connection with Disha Salian’s death.
The distinction between a person being mentioned for investigation and being formally treated as an accused is particularly important in this case. Current reporting states that the CBI has not named anyone as an accused at this stage.
The fresh CBI probe is not limited to actors and entertainment personalities.
The FIR reportedly refers to police officers, officials involved in the earlier inquiry, forensic personnel, medical professionals and other individuals.
Investigators are expected to review previous case records and examine how the original investigation was conducted.
Police files, forensic material, medical and post-mortem records, witness statements and other available evidence may form part of the renewed examination.
The agency is also expected to speak with people who were present or may have relevant information about events surrounding Salian’s death.
One of the key aspects of the new investigation will be a review of material collected during the earlier inquiry.
Investigators can examine whether important records were properly preserved, whether statements were appropriately recorded and whether forensic material was adequately considered.
The FIR contains allegations concerning possible suppression, destruction or fabrication of evidence. These remain allegations under investigation and have not been established as facts by the fresh probe.
The CBI’s task will therefore be to establish what happened through documentary evidence, witness accounts, forensic findings and other legally relevant material.
The CBI has assigned senior officer Seema Pahuja to lead the investigation.
Pahuja is associated with the agency’s Special Crimes unit and has previously worked on several high-profile investigations. Her earlier assignments have included cases such as the Hathras case and the RG Kar Medical College investigation.
Her appointment comes as the agency begins examining a case that dates back more than six years.
Because the case involves earlier police records, witnesses and forensic material, investigators will have to assess both the original evidence and any new information that emerges.
Disha Salian’s death has frequently been discussed alongside the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.
Salian died on June 8, 2020, while Rajput was found dead on June 14, 2020.
The short interval between the two deaths led to extensive public speculation about a possible connection.
However, the timing alone does not establish that the two deaths were criminally connected.
The current CBI investigation is focused on Disha Salian’s death. Any connection between the two cases would need to be established through evidence rather than speculation.
The fresh investigation is expected to cover several areas connected with the case.
These include:
• The circumstances surrounding Disha Salian’s death
• The earlier police investigation
• Statements from relevant witnesses
• Previous case records and official documents
• Medical and post-mortem material
• Forensic evidence
• The actions of officials involved in the original inquiry
• Allegations concerning the handling or suppression of evidence
• The roles of individuals specifically mentioned in the FIR
• Any new evidence that could support or contradict the allegations
The investigation will ultimately have to distinguish between claims, supporting evidence and established facts.
The case has received renewed attention because of the fresh CBI FIR, the Bombay High Court’s direction and the inclusion of several well-known names in the investigation.
The development has also generated reactions from people connected to the wider events surrounding the case.
At the same time, the legal status of the people named in the FIR should not be misunderstood.
Being mentioned as a person whose role requires investigation does not automatically mean that the person has been charged with an offence.
The CBI will have to determine whether evidence exists to support any allegations before deciding on further legal action.
The investigation is now expected to move through evidence collection, witness examination and review of previous investigative material.
The CBI may question individuals connected with the events surrounding Disha Salian’s death and examine officials involved in the original investigation.
Investigators may also revisit the scene and conduct technical or forensic analysis where considered necessary.
If evidence establishes criminal involvement by any individual, the investigation may proceed accordingly. If allegations are not supported by evidence, that outcome would also form part of the investigative process.
For now, the case remains under investigation.
The renewed investigation has brought significant public attention to a case that remained unresolved in the eyes of many people for years.
However, the latest FIR should be understood as the beginning of a fresh investigative process rather than a final conclusion.
The names of Sooraj Pancholi, Rhea Chakraborty, Dino Morea and others have been reported in connection with the investigation, but their appearance in the FIR does not establish guilt.
The final picture will depend on the evidence collected by the CBI and any conclusions reached through the legal process.
As the investigation progresses, further statements, evidence and legal developments are likely to determine how the case moves forward.
This article reflects publicly reported developments available as of September 16, 2026. Allegations mentioned in connection with the FIR are presented as allegations under investigation and should not be treated as established findings of guilt.
