Delhi Dating App Extortion Case: Four Arrested After Man Allegedly Loses ₹2.15 Lakh

The Delhi dating app extortion case has led to the arrest of four people after a 44-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh allegedly lost ₹2.15 lakh following a meeting arranged through a dating application. The incident was reported in Delhi’s Najafgarh area, and police said the investigation is continuing.

Delhi Dating App Extortion Case: What Happened?

According to police, the complainant, a resident of Mathura, met a woman through a dating application. He was allegedly asked to meet her near Dhansa Metro Station before being taken to a house in the Najafgarh area of southwest Delhi.

Police said the situation reportedly changed after the man reached the location. He was allegedly threatened and pressured to transfer money through bank and UPI transactions. A portion of the alleged extortion amount was also taken in cash.

₹2.15 Lakh Allegedly Taken Through Bank and UPI Transactions

Police said the total amount involved was ₹2.15 lakh.

Around ₹1.93 lakh was allegedly transferred through bank and UPI transactions, while another ₹22,000 was allegedly taken in cash.

The complainant later approached the police, following which a case was registered at Chhawla Police Station on September 14.

Four Arrested in Najafgarh Extortion Case

Four people — Mandeep, Preeti, Kamlesh and Ritu — were subsequently arrested in connection with the alleged extortion case.

Police also said that one of the accused allegedly impersonated a police officer during the incident.

The arrests followed the complaint and subsequent investigation into the alleged financial transactions and circumstances surrounding the incident.

₹70,500 Recovered So Far

Police said ₹70,500 has been recovered so far.

The remaining amount was traced to different bank accounts, which have reportedly been frozen to prevent further withdrawal or transfer. Further efforts are underway to recover the remaining money.

Police Investigate Possible Additional Involvement

Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the case and checking whether other individuals may have been involved.

Police are also looking into whether there could be additional victims connected with the alleged operation.

The investigation is expected to establish the complete circumstances surrounding the alleged dating app extortion and the movement of the money.

Dating App Extortion Raises Online Safety Concerns

The case highlights the financial and personal risks that can arise when online interactions move quickly to offline meetings.

Dating applications are widely used to connect with new people, but incidents involving alleged deception and extortion demonstrate the importance of exercising caution when meeting someone known only through an online platform.

Users should remain careful about sharing personal information, financial details or making payments under pressure.

Investigation Remains Ongoing

The allegations in this case remain subject to investigation. The accused persons are entitled to due process under the law, and further details may emerge as the investigation continues.

Police are continuing efforts to trace the remaining money and establish the complete circumstances of the alleged extortion.
