Delhi Police Arrest Wanted Criminal After 29 Years in Dwarka

Delhi criminal arrested after nearly 29 years as the Delhi Police Crime Branch apprehended a wanted accused who had allegedly been evading arrest since 1996. The 60-year-old man was arrested from Dwarka Sector 14 after investigators received information about his whereabouts.

Police identified the accused as Murari alias Ashok and said he was wanted in three criminal cases registered in Delhi and Rajasthan.

The arrest brings a long-pending investigation closer to the next stage of legal proceedings and highlights how police agencies continue efforts to trace wanted persons even after several decades.

Wanted in Cases Across Delhi and Rajasthan

According to the police account, Murari was wanted in three separate cases. One of these cases was registered at Uchhain police station in Bharatpur, Rajasthan, and dates back to 1996.

The case involved allegations related to robbery and theft, along with an alleged assault on police personnel.

Police said other accused persons connected with the case had already faced trial, while warrants were subsequently issued against Murari. A permanent non-bailable warrant was reportedly issued against him in September 2013.

Another case in Rajasthan allegedly involved house-breaking, trespassing and theft. Police records also mentioned the alleged use of a weapon in connection with that case.

The third case was registered at Ranhola in Delhi and relates to an alleged confrontation with a police team during a raid involving the police and Excise Department.

Alleged Attack During Delhi Raid

According to police, the Ranhola case originated during a raid at a liquor godown.

During the operation, investigators reportedly recovered illicit liquor and two vehicles. Police alleged that Murari obstructed officials and assaulted personnel who were carrying out their official duties.

A non-bailable warrant was subsequently issued by a court at Tis Hazari in connection with the case.

The allegations remain subject to the legal process, and the accused is entitled to due process under the law.

Police Say Accused Had Previous Criminal Cases

Delhi Police said Murari had previously been involved in 18 criminal cases.

According to the police account, these cases included allegations involving arms, excise offences, gambling and provisions of the Indian Penal Code.

The reported criminal history formed part of the background considered by investigators while tracing the wanted accused.

However, an arrest does not by itself establish guilt. The allegations in the individual cases will be dealt with through the appropriate legal and judicial process.

How Police Traced Him After Nearly Three Decades

The investigation reportedly received a breakthrough after the Crime Branch obtained information regarding the accused’s whereabouts.

Police teams used available technical inputs and field-level verification to establish his movements. Investigators subsequently located him in the Dwarka area and took him into custody.

The case demonstrates the importance of maintaining efforts to trace wanted persons in long-pending cases.

For investigators, such cases can require old records to be reviewed alongside current information before the identity and location of a wanted person can be confirmed.

From Bharatpur to Delhi

Police said Murari originally belonged to Uchhain in Bharatpur, Rajasthan.

According to the police account, he later moved to Delhi with his brother and eventually settled in the capital.

Police further alleged that he became involved in illegal liquor-related activities after coming into contact with criminal elements.

The movement of an accused between different states can make investigations more complicated because information and case records may involve law-enforcement agencies operating in different jurisdictions.

Why Long-Pending Arrests Can Be Challenging

Tracing a wanted person after several years can be a difficult task for law-enforcement agencies.

Addresses can change, personal circumstances can change and older records may need to be connected with newer information. When cases involve more than one state, coordination between different police units can also become important.

In this case, the eventual arrest shows how information gathering, verification and continued investigation can help police locate a person who has allegedly remained outside their reach for many years.

Warrants Remained Pending

Police said permanent warrants had been issued in two cases, while a non-bailable warrant was pending in another matter.

The warrants meant that the legal proceedings connected with the cases remained active despite the accused allegedly remaining away from police custody for an extended period.

The Delhi criminal arrested in this long-pending matter will now face the next stages of the legal process connected with the outstanding cases and warrants.

Legal Proceedings Continue

Following the arrest, further legal proceedings are expected in connection with the pending cases.

The investigation and court proceedings will determine the next steps, while the allegations and evidence will be considered according to law.

It is important to distinguish between an arrest and a conviction. An accused person remains entitled to due process, and guilt must ultimately be established through the judicial system.

Investigation and Verification Remain Important

The arrest after nearly three decades highlights the importance of continued investigation, information gathering and verification in long-pending criminal cases.

For law-enforcement agencies, cases involving wanted persons who have allegedly remained untraceable for years can require a fresh examination of historical records along with current intelligence.

The case also demonstrates why accurate verification is important before drawing conclusions about an accused person.

The arrest of Murari alias Ashok by the Delhi Police Crime Branch marks a significant development in cases that had remained pending for many years. The underlying allegations, however, will continue to be addressed through the legal process.
