Barwani Occult Fraud: Couple Arrested in ₹8.54 Lakh Alleged Scam
A couple has been arrested in Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh in connection with an alleged fraud involving cash and gold and silver jewellery worth around ₹8.54 lakh.
According to police, the accused allegedly convinced a local woman that certain rituals could solve her problems and help increase the value of her money and valuables. The case was reported from the Sendhwa area of Barwani district.
Woman Allegedly Convinced Through Ritual Claims
Police said the accused woman initially developed contact with the victim and allegedly spoke to her about personal problems and an alleged supernatural influence.
She reportedly offered to perform rituals and claimed that these would help resolve the situation. During this period, the victim allegedly handed over money to the accused on different occasions.
Investigators said approximately ₹3.59 lakh in cash was allegedly collected from the victim.
Jewellery Worth Nearly ₹5 Lakh Allegedly Taken
The alleged fraud later involved the victim’s jewellery.
According to the police investigation, the accused woman arrived with her husband and allegedly took gold and silver ornaments from the victim after making claims related to doubling or increasing their value through a ritual.
The jewellery was estimated to be worth approximately ₹4.95 lakh.
When the promised return did not happen, the victim reportedly began asking for her money and jewellery back. After waiting for a considerable period, she approached the police.
Police Register Case and Arrest Couple
Following the complaint, Sendhwa City Police initiated an investigation and arrested the accused couple.
Police are questioning the two suspects to establish the complete sequence of events and determine what happened to the money and jewellery allegedly taken from the victim.
Investigators are also examining whether some of the jewellery may have been pledged or transferred elsewhere.
Previous Complaint Also Under Investigation
Police have reportedly indicated that the woman may also have been connected with another cheating complaint in the Barwani district.
Investigators are examining whether the two incidents have any connection and whether other people may have been affected.
At this stage, these are allegations under investigation, and the accused remain subject to the legal process.
Why Fraud Promises Involving Money and Valuables Can Be Risky
Fraudsters can sometimes use promises of extraordinary financial returns, supernatural solutions or guaranteed benefits to gain a person’s trust.
Such claims can become particularly risky when victims are persuaded to hand over cash, jewellery or other valuable property.
People should exercise caution when someone demands valuable belongings in exchange for promises that cannot be independently verified. Suspicious transactions should be documented and reported to the appropriate authorities.
Investigation Remains Ongoing
The alleged ₹8.54 lakh fraud case in Barwani remains under investigation. Police are continuing to question the arrested couple and examine the financial and property-related aspects of the complaint.
The final facts of the case will depend on the evidence collected during the investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
